Nokia has surprised every one of us with the launch of their first Android phones, the Nokia X, X+ and XL. All the three are based on a very similar design language, but differ somewhat in internals. The X+ has more RAM and a micro SD card in the box, the XL is very similar to the X+ but has a bigger screen, that's basically it. The Nokia XL has a 5 inch IPS WVGA screen with blacks that look decently dark and colours that are unwashed. With a good large screen and decent internals, does Nokia have a winner in the cheap phablet category? While we ponder on that, here is a bunch of photos straight from the Mobile World Congress 2014 event we are live from. Check out the Nokia X+ Dual SIM Android Phone Photo Gallery You can see the 5 inch screen here in relative terms. The phone is really big but not as big as the photo makes it out to be. The tiles-like interface is Nokia's skin over AOSP Android. Unlike the X and the X+, the XL comes with a 2MP front facing camera for Skype calls and more. The camera on the back is a ...

Nokia has just announced its first Android based smartphone - Nokia X at the Under The Tree event in Barcelona during MWC 2014. The Nokia X aims to be the perfect merger of the budget minded Asha UI and Nokia Lumia range design language. It will combine budget pricing, Lumia range design along with the goodness of Android app compatibility to create a whole new series of Nokia X budget smartphones. We were there at Nokia's press conference and then we had our chance to play with the devices on show. We managed to get a few photos of the Nokia X which you can check out right below. As you can see, the design language combines Asha's single home button with Lumia's unibody design. The front of the phone has just the display and the lone home button below it. The back of the phone too looks like a typical Lumia device with a horizontal Nokia branding below the camera. The right side of the device houses the power lock button and the volume rocker.  Over at the top, we have the 3.5mm audio jack slot.  At the bottom, we have the microUSB port. The Nokia X is available starting immediately and is priced at ...

Nokia's Android phones are here and they are real. They launched three new Android devices and a Asha and a Nokia feature phone each, with the Android phones being the obvious highlight. A few years ago, one would never have imagined Nokia going down this after, especially after February 11 happened, but here we are, going hands on with Nokia's own Android devices. Sort of a dream come true for many, we scrambled to try and get some decent time with all the devices and so here are our thoughts about the newly launched Nokia X+. For starters, here is a video of the Nokia X+ httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dNZGmuXA9c The X+ is undoubtedly a Nokia, with its Asha-like design and a sturdy plastic build. Of course it is really colourful too, as you can see from the flat sides in the photo above. It is really nice to hold in the hands and feels really grippy, reminding us of the Lumia 520. Talking of the Lumia 520, most of the specifications here are very similar, like a 4 inch WVGA screen, a dual core 1 GHz Snapdragon processor. Yes, it is the exact same as the Nokia X but there are a few differences ...

At MWC 2014 in Barcelona, Nokia announced a series of devices that defied its partnership with Microsoft a couple of years back. Finally, Nokia announced its own Android running smartphones. But there is definitely more to it than meets the eye. Nokia hasn't embraced Google or its services through Android, but opened up Microsoft's services via Android fork. We managed to get our hands on all the three members of the Nokia X family and you can check out the family video right below. httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIZgFFxvAXw Nokia aims to create these budget offerings as a step before Lumia range and Nokia has confirmed that Nokia Lumia devices will be the company's primary smartphone series. The difference between Nokia X and Nokia X+ is minimal. Nokia X+ comes with 768MB RAM while the Nokia X comes with 512MB RAM. The difference between Nokia X+ and Nokia XL is in their size - Nokia XL comes with a bigger 5inch display and a bigger 2000mAh battery. All the devices share the same design language which seems to be a ...

Hands on with the Nokia XL: Lumia 520 killer?

In a courageous and cunning move, Nokia launched its new series of Android devices under the X moniker, a ploy to capture the entry level Smartphone segment, which they had initially planned to capture with the Asha platform. Three devices at different price points were launched, with the XL being launched at a higher 109 EUR price point. Sporting hardware design from the Asha phones and software design from Lumia, Nokia wants to create familiarity to Windows Phone in the low end and hopes to catch aspiring buyers and make them move to their hopefully more profitable platform. But the pricing is treacherously close to their low end Lumias, which might just end up cannibalizing the sales of the latter, even when providing a choice with similar hardware. The XL, a 5 inch Android phone with almost the same or better specifications than the Lumia 520, poses a threat, or may be is it opportunity for Nokia and Microsoft? httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7lBS1eQZ2k Check out the photo gallery The design of the Nokia XL is just a bigger elongated version of the X and the X+, in line with the consistency the company hopes to create. The poly carbonate plastic is sturdy and looks really good, ...

Nokia X was launched less than a couple of weeks, but it has already been hacked. That is the thing about Android smartphones - you can get root user access and do things that wouldn't be otherwise possible. As rumored, Nokia introduced an Android smartphone at MWC 2014, but with their own restrictions. Nokia had completely removed Google from the equation and pushed a lot of its own code and Nokia X series devices use Microsoft's services instead of Google. Nokia X was announced and launched immediately and now it has been hacked. Nokia X can now run Google Play Store and you can download apps from Google Play Store which has quite a lot of apps. According to the Nokia's CEO Stephen Elop, they are targeting the entry range smartphone market with the Nokia X series and they are hoping that the tile based interface would make the users want Windows Phone devices - Switch to Lumia. As we all know, the folks at XDA developers forum are never shy to try out things and we were pretty sure that they would lay their hands on the Nokia X and do something. As expected, they got the device to run Google ...

The Nokia Lumia 630 (code named Moneypenny) has been rumored for a while now and thanks to Evleaks we now get a better look at the handset. The handset which'll be announced around Build in April will run Windows Phone 8.1. The image reveals subtle breaks from the design language of the Lumia 620 and the 625. The Lumia 630 has lost a fair bit of weight and now has marked resemblance to the new Nokia X. The phone also loses the camera key and the flash. The phone will also ship in a range of colors as with most Lumia devices though we're quite excited to see the addition of an orange shade here. The entire range will include green, orange, yellow and the standard white, black colors. The phone will ship with WP8.1 onboard that brings a wide variety of enhancements to the operating system including a full fledged notification center, better multitasking and even a virtual assistant called Cortana that'll work in a way not dissimilar to Siri or Cortana. Nokia X is the first smartphone from the Espoo company running Android, and more importantly, Android apps. It was launched in India just a day back for a price of Rs. 8,599/-. "X" is symbolic in many ways. the company is now at the cross roads of a transition from being an independent company to being owned by Microsoft, the maker of software running on Nokia's current smartphones. X is also the bridge between Nokia's struggling smartphone business and its traditional feature phone business. Nokia knew, that without apps, its revived Asha platform phones are getting nowhere, and they also knew that it will never create this familiarity factor with Windows Phone, a crucial factor for any company that has a wide array of devices. Hence the Nokia X happened, and just a day after it officially launched in India, we now have it with us, in retail form, for a quick unboxing and overview of the device on video, watch - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQlW_s3Ww2I As you can see from the video above, the box contents are very minimal and to the point, and very similar to what we usually see inside the boxes of Asha devices. Nokia has updated its Nokia Refocus app, that now brings support to all Nokia Lumia smartphones running on Windows Phone 8. The app was demoed back at the Nokia event in Abu Dhabi, back in October, and the app was launched in the Windows Phone Store in November. It was launched for PureView smartphones, the Lumia 920, Lumia 925, Lumia 928 and the Lumia 1020 running the Windows Phone 8 Amber update. The Refocus app lets you focus a part of an image, after you have captured it. This uses an unique algorithm, takes  a number of photos, each at a different focus stage when you press the camera shutter key sand produces a photo with a focus that can be adjusted for viewing it later. Once the image is captured, you can use the in-built sharing feature to others, so that they can see your photo and choose their own focal point. These images can also viewed via Facebook. If you have a Nokia smartphone running Windows Phone 8, you can grab the app from the Windows Phone Store for free. It might take some time for the update to roll out worldwide, so don't panic, if it's not available you yet. [HTML1]
